Culture and Connection: CenterLight Healthcare PACE Celebrates Two Years of Its South Asian Cultural Center

Jamaica, Queens — January 28, 2026 — CenterLight Healthcare’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly(PACE) celebrated the second anniversary of its South Asian Cultural Center in Jamaica, Queens. Participants, community leaders, and staff gathered to honor the center’s growth and the significance of this Alternative Care Setting (ACS).

The event began with remarks from Chief Operations Officer Patricia Connelly and Director of Therapeutic Recreation Kathleen Keegan, who reflected on the center’s progress since its opening. They noted the center’s growth from serving four participants weekly to now supporting 45. Since the center’s opening, participants have enjoyed a welcoming space for prayer, meditation, food from their culture, and more than 100 monthly programs, including yoga, crafts, and celebrations such as Holi, Diwali, and Eid, all of which support their holistic well-being.

“Here we are two years later, you come together as a community to socialize and engage with each other, to participate in the activities we have here, and this is so important for your physical and mental health. So, we are proud that CenterLight can bring this South Asian Cultural Center to you all,” said Patricia Connelly.

A group of participants took part in the celebration with a special choreographed dance that they performed for those who were in attendance. This was their gift to the center that has brought them so much joy.

“My life has totally changed since I joined here. Before, I stayed home, that's it, and I was always sad and watching TV. So my daughter, she brings me here, and I chose one day, but after one month, my mind is changed and I took two days,” says CenterLight PACE participant Nasreen Janjua who also attends the CenterLight Flushing PACE site for medical services, exercise and therapy.

CenterLight Healthcare PACE Shines a Light on Culture and Community at Diwali Celebration at its South Asian Cultural Center

Queens, NY — October 22, 2025 — CenterLight Healthcare PACE celebrated Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with an inclusive and joyful event at its South Asian Cultural Center in Queens. The day began with a group exercise session, designed to energize and connect participants, followed by an afternoon of vibrant cultural celebration, reflection, and community.

The event welcomed participants, families, and staff of all backgrounds, creating a space for shared celebration and cultural engagement. From traditional music and dance performances to festive decorations, storytelling, and a specially prepared meal, the Diwali celebration was a true expression of the center’s light — rooted in the cultural diversity of our community and strengthened by the care and support provided by CenterLight.

Ayesha Siddiqua, a CenterLight PACE participant for two years, shared her excitement about events like this. In addition to the medical care and physical therapy she receives at the PACE Center, Ayesha looks forward to attending the alternative care setting* in Jamaica three times a week, especially for special days like the Diwali celebration. She said, “We are very happy to be celebrating Diwali today. It’s CenterLight — but actually, it should be called CenterLife. Here, you’ll find people who don’t traditionally celebrate Diwali because it’s not part of their culture — but at CenterLight, they make it possible for everyone to celebrate together and share. Whether it’s through movement, food, or simply talking about Diwali, CenterLight believes in one family.”

The South Asian Center, known for its culturally focused programming, encourages participants to celebrate and share their traditions while embracing the diversity of the wider CenterLight community. Events like this exemplify CenterLight’s belief in the power of community, culture, and inclusive care. CenterLight PACE Brings Carnival Fun to Participants in Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY — August 12, 2025 — CenterLight Healthcare's Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) hosted their highly anticipated annual carnival for participants. This event is a summer staple for participants from multiple PACE centers who come together for a fun day filled with joy, games, and community spirit.

The Rockaway PACE center parking lot was transformed into a carnival complete with games, music, and more! A magician kicked off the event, entertaining CenterLight PACE participants and bringing lots of laughter. Participants also enjoyed face-painting and games like ring toss, axe toss, blow-up basketball, and a dunk tank! Staff took turns getting splashed by participants.

“Es un placer aquí, jugué muchos juegos. Muy divertido!" said Pablo Soriano, which translates to "It's a pleasure here, I played many games. Very fun!" Soriano is a participant who attends the center every week. Like many of his peers, he was excited to spend time with his friends, play games, and win prizes. "The event was amazing. Witnessing the participants enjoy the activities and carnival games the team organized for them was truly gratifying and reminded us why we love what we do here at CenterLight," said Patricia Connelly, Chief Operations Officer. In attendance was Jennifer Viechweg-Horsford, Director of Community Relations for State Senator Roxanne Persaud. She had the chance to witness what the PACE program is and the services it provides to our participants. The carnival was more than fun and games, it brought participants and staff together which highlights the community spirit that CenterLight Healthcare PACE supports year-round!

CenterLight Healthcare PACE Celebrates A Century in Bloom with Special Tribute to Centenarians | 100 Years — 100 Stories

Flushing, NY — July 17, 2025 — On July 16, CenterLight Healthcare Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) hosted a joyful and heartfelt Centenarian Day celebration, honoring participants who have reached, surpassed or are soon to reach the remarkable milestone of 100 years of age.

CenterLight staff, family, friends, and local elected officials joined the centenarians to celebrate a century of stories, memories, and wisdom. The festivities featured lively music, dancing, delicious food, and a celebratory toast. The event concluded with a special cake and sing-along in their honor.

A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of a formal proclamation from the office of State Senator John Liu, officially recognizing Centenarian Day in the local community and celebrating the lives and legacies of these remarkable older adults.

Also in attendance was Assemblymember Ron Kim, who shared heartfelt remarks, stating, “Age is celebrated all around the world. When you reach 100, it’s such an amazing place where you should be honored every single moment. This is a small token of appreciation, what we are doing today, but every single day we should be honoring older adults through positive aging programs.”

Five of CenterLight’s thirty-one centenarians attended the event, including 104-year-old honoree Santiago Urena, who attends the Flushing PACE center with his wife, Juana. As longtime participants of CenterLight PACE, the couple has enjoyed making friends and taking part in activities and special events at the center.

Santiago Urena has been a part of the CenterLight PACE program for 14 years and has celebrated meaningful milestones — including birthdays and his 65^th wedding anniversary — at the PACE center. A former municipal police officer from the Dominican Republic, Santiago is known for his love of music, dancing, and dominos. When asked what keeps him going, Santiago does not hesitate: “Dios (God),” he said. He was among those recognized for his energy and continued engagement in the PACE community.

“Our PACE program is about keeping participants active, engaged and connected as they get older” said CenterLight President and CEO Tara Buonocore-Rut. “They become a part of the CenterLight family. If you ask them the secret to aging with health, grace, and humility, they often point out the community around them.”

CenterLight PACE provides high-quality, comprehensive care to older adults across New York, ensuring they age with dignity and purpose. The organization looks forward to continuing this annual tradition in recognition of the contributions and lives of its centenarian participants.

CenterLight Healthcare PACE Presents at the 2025 National PACE Association Summer Conference

Indianapolis, IN, June 8, 2025 - CenterLight Healthcare, an organization that operates the largest Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) in New York and the largest single-state PACE in the nation, presented “From Silos to Synergy: Building a Culture of Quality with the Medical Director” at this year’s National PACE® Association Summer Conference in Indianapolis.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ziad Farah, MD MBA, Senior Vice President of Quality Gilda St. Fleur, and Assistant Director of Quality Improvement Kimberly Smith, CPHQ led a dynamic session for nearly 50 Medical Directors focused on bridging the gap between clinical leadership and quality improvement.

The presentation emphasized practical strategies to build alignment, integrate quality functions, and strengthen the Medical Director’s role as a driver of organizational change. Key topics included data literacy, transparency, process improvement, and cross-functional teamwork.

The session sparked meaningful dialogue around how Medical Directors can lead beyond the clinical lane—and ended on a high note with a tour of the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.

CenterLight Healthcare PACE Celebrates Creativity, Culture and Community at “Art Around the World” Exhibit

Bronx, NY – May 1, 2025 – CenterLight Healthcare proudly hosted Art Around the World, a special exhibit of artwork created by participants in its Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). The event brought together participants, their families, community partners, and elected officials for an inspiring evening celebrating the creativity and cultural heritage of older adults.

Held at our Wallerstein PACE Center in the Bronx, the exhibit features a vibrant collection of paintings, drawings, and mixed-media pieces, each reflecting the diverse backgrounds, stories and artistic talents of CenterLight PACE participants. The evening included live music by Latin jazz band Mambo Blue, hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, and heartfelt reflections shared by participants and CenterLight’s executive team.

“Our participants are the heart of CenterLight,” said President and CEO Tara Buonocore-Rut. “This event honors not just their creativity, but their journeys, resilience and the cultural richness they bring to our community.”

Art Around the World serves as a reminder of the powerful role that art and storytelling play in promoting self-expression and connection among older adults. More than just healthcare, the event reflected CenterLight’s dedication to enriching the lives of older adults through arts, culture and social connection.

“When we’re in the art room, we laugh, listen to music and help each other — they make you feel at home,” said longtime participant Lilian Ramos. “Without CenterLight, I’d just be sitting at home watching TV by myself.” Participant Betty Murray added, “I’m so grateful for this team. I come here because it makes me feel good.”

CenterLight Healthcare PACE Hosts Multicultural Celebration of Eid Al-Fitr and Holi at South Asian Cultural Center

Queens, NY April 1, 2025 – CenterLight Healthcare’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) hosted a multicultural celebration of Eid Al-Fitr and Holi at their South Asian Cultural Center in Jamaica. The event reflected the spirit of unity and culture that CenterLight PACE is known for. Eid Al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, and Holi, the festival of colors celebrating the arrival of spring, were both honored through a series of activities.

PACE participants enjoyed traditional food, lively music and a performance by international dancer Zaman. Highlights included a henna station and the Holi tradition of gulal, the throwing of colored powders.

CenterLight’s South Asian Cultural Center caters to the unique social and cultural needs of South Asian seniors. During the month of Ramadan, CenterLight ensured that participants observing the fast had access to take-home meals to break their fast at sunset. One participant shared his appreciation through a translator, “I am so grateful to CenterLight for making the proper arrangements so that we can fast during Ramadan. Now we get to celebrate together,” said Md. Khorshed Alam, a participant since December 2023 who attends the center often.

“Events like this highlight the cultures within our CenterLight PACE community,” said CenterLight CEO and President Tara Buonocore-Rut. “By celebrating both Eid al Fitr and Holi, we honor these transitions and create a space where all our participants can connect, share stories and experience the joy that comes from these special occasions.”

This celebration showcases the commitment CenterLight Healthcare PACE has towards fostering an environment of cultural inclusivity and respect at their South Asian Cultural Center.

7 de febrero de 2025 - Este Año Nuevo Lunar, nuestras sedes de Nueva York y Westchester se llenaron de alegría cuando los participantes se vistieron de rojo para dar la bienvenida al Año de la Serpiente con música festiva, actuaciones culturales y muchas sonrisas. ¿Lo más destacado? Una visita especial del León Rojo, que trajo buena suerte y emoción a todos.

Esta celebración no sólo honró una rica cultura, sino que fomentó un sentimiento de pertenencia, especialmente entre nuestros participantes que celebran esta tradición. Muchos participantes invitaron a amigos y familiares como invitados especiales, ampliando aún más la celebración. Bronx, NY - 28 de noviembre de 2024 - CenterLight Healthcare PACE lanzó recientemente los eventos del mercado de agricultores de este año, que marcaron el comienzo de una serie de eventos centrados en las fiestas diseñados para llevar alimentos frescos y saludables a sus participantes PACE.

El Programa de cuidados integrales para personas mayores (PACE, por sus siglas en inglés) de CenterLight ayuda a los participantes a seguir viviendo con seguridad en casa y en sus comunidades, al tiempo que reciben una atención integral. Los mercados agrícolas de Acción de Gracias son para los participantes que quieren disfrutar de las fiestas en casa con frutas frescas, verduras y otros productos de origen local. Una pareja local celebra su 72º aniversario de boda con amigos y familiares en CenterLight PACE

White Plains, NY - 27 de septiembre de 2024 - Familiares, amigos y el personal de CenterLight Healthcare PACE se reunieron para celebrar el 72 aniversario de boda de los participantes de PACE Raphael (99) y Lorenza (96) Altamirano.

El aniversario de los Altamirano se celebró con música tradicional latina, deliciosa comida, pastel y postres. El Centro de Salud de Día en nuestro sitio PACE Westchester fue bellamente adornado con flores y decoraciones, incluyendo centros de mesa y recuerdos de la fiesta hecha por sus compañeros participantes, para honrar este hito increíble.

La historia de amor de Rafael y Lorenza comenzó en Machala, Ecuador, en 1951, en un baile. Fue amor a primera vista. "Sentí que iba a morir si no me unía a ti", dijo Raphael durante la celebración. Un año después, el 15 de septiembre de 1952, la pareja se dio el "sí, quiero". Su viaje incluye aventurarse a Estados Unidos con sus siete hijos en 1977. Décadas después, la pareja sigue dedicada el uno al otro y a su familia.

Hoy, la pareja asiste al centro CenterLight Westchester PACE dos veces por semana y todos son testigos del amor que se profesan. "Podemos ver cómo él cuida de ella y cómo ella se preocupa por él. Están muy unidos", dice Bella, una amiga y compañera. "Estoy muy contenta y orgullosa de celebrar su amor. Siempre decimos que en el Centro de Salud de Día somos una familia", dijo la especialista en recreación terapéutica Arianna Corretjer.

Los Altamirano expresaron su gratitud a todos los presentes. "Mis padres estaban muy emocionados, y yo aún más porque rendir este homenaje a mis padres no tiene precio", dijo Letty, la hija de la pareja.

CenterLight Healthcare PACE celebra el Carnaval en Bushwick

Brooklyn, NY - 1 de agosto de 2024 - El Programa de Atención Integral para Personas Mayores (PACE, por sus siglas en inglés) de CenterLight Healthcare celebró un Carnaval Caribeño en su Centro PACE de Bushwick para la apertura suave del sitio. El evento estuvo lleno de plumas de colores, máscaras y tocados adornados, música, comida, baile y espíritu comunitario.

Los participantes de CenterLight PACE comenzaron el día elaborando sus propios tocados tradicionales con abalorios y plumas antes de ponerse en pie al ritmo del tambor y de una bailarina de samba tradicional.

Más de cincuenta miembros de la comunidad, proveedores y personal se unieron a las festividades, incluida la concejal de Nueva York Mercedes Narcisse, quien, junto con su personal, aprovechó la oportunidad para aprender más sobre PACE.

El evento contó con una ceremonia de corte de cinta en la que la Presidenta y Directora Ejecutiva de CenterLight PACE, Tara Buonocore-Rut, expresó su entusiasmo y sus objetivos para CenterLight. "PACE es un modelo de atención al que todos deberían tener acceso. El Sr. Nieves perdió la visión y al unirse a CenterLight hace siete años dice: "Se convirtieron en mis ojos. Me hicieron la vida más fácil". White Plains, NY - 26 de julio de 2024 - CenterLight Healthcare PACE se enorgullece de dar la bienvenida a la Líder de la Mayoría del Senado Andrea Stewart-Cousins a su Centro PACE de Westchester para su muy esperado carnaval anual. El evento, un elemento básico de la diversión de verano para los participantes de múltiples centros PACE, ofreció un día de diversión lleno de alegría, juegos y espíritu comunitario.

En un brillante y soleado día de julio, el centro PACE de Westchester se transformó en un carnaval lleno de juegos, música y mucho más. Los participantes disfrutaron de lanzamiento de anillas, fish pong, pintura de caras y un zoológico de mascotas con una alpaca y un poni. Uno de los aspectos más destacados fue el tanque de agua, donde el personal CenterLight PACE se turnó en la zona de chapoteo.

La senadora Stewart-Cousins se unió a la celebración para reunirse con los participantes y aprovechó la oportunidad para observar el impacto del programa PACE. Su visita incluyó un recorrido por el centro y la recién lanzada Unidad Móvil PACE, junto a la Presidenta y Directora Ejecutiva de CenterLight, Tara Buonocore-Rut.

En un gesto de agradecimiento, Sheila Davis y Maria Villarubbia, participantes en CenterLight, entregaron a la senadora Stewart-Cousins un premio en reconocimiento a su apoyo y compromiso con las cuestiones legislativas relacionadas con la salud y el envejecimiento. La senadora Stewart-Cousins expresó su gratitud afirmando: "Soy muy consciente de los obstáculos a los que se enfrentan las personas mayores a la hora de acceder a la atención sanitaria. Por eso me alegra saber que CenterLight ofrece una forma integral de atender las necesidades de los mayores manteniéndolos en su hogar."

El nuevo entorno de cuidados alternativos ofrecerá más de 100 programas y actividades al mes diseñados especialmente para los participantes en el programa PACE de CenterLight Healthcare dentro de la comunidad del sur de Asia.

Jamaica, Queens - 13 de diciembre de 2023 - CenterLight Healthcare PACE anunció la gran apertura de su nuevo Entorno Cultural Sudasiático de Cuidados Alternativos (ACS, por sus siglas en inglés)* en Jamaica, Queens durante un evento de puertas abiertas celebrado el 12 de diciembre. Los asistentes escucharon las palabras de bienvenida de la Presidenta/CEO de CenterLight Healthcare PACE, Tara Buonocore-Rut, y del Vicepresidente y Director de Estrategia, Shaun Ruskin; recorrieron las nuevas instalaciones; participaron en actividades culturales como danza; y cenaron menús tradicionales del sur de Asia.

El nuevo Entorno de Cuidados Alternativos (ACS), situado en el 97-35 de Allendale St., está diseñado para satisfacer las necesidades sociales y culturales de los mayores sudasiáticos de la comunidad que participan en CenterLight Healthcare PACE, un Programa de Cuidados Todo Incluido para Ancianos, que atiende a adultos mayores de 55 años. 

"Vimos una clara necesidad de ofrecer servicios culturalmente sensibles a la población del sur de Asia y la apertura del nuevo Centro Cultural del Sur de Asia ofrecerá a nuestros participantes de CenterLight PACE la oportunidad de compartir actividades, comidas y simplemente estar juntos y socializar", dijo Tara Buonocore-Rut, Presidente y CEO de CenterLight Healthcare PACE. "La adición de este Entorno de Cuidados Alternativos (ACS) nos ayudará a lograr nuestro objetivo de mejorar la salud general y el bienestar de nuestros participantes que siguen viviendo de forma independiente en casa y en sus comunidades."

El centro ofrecerá más de 100 programas y actividades al mes, incluidas celebraciones culturales como Holi, Diwali y Eid. Los participantes tendrán acceso a salas dedicadas a la oración, la meditación y el Wudu, así como a menús diarios con comida tradicional del sur de Asia. Las actividades diarias incluirán yoga, meditación, pintura sobre lienzo, clases de cocina, joyería, artesanía, té de hierbas, costura, ganchillo y clases de inglés como segunda lengua.

"Los médicos suelen hablar de medicamentos, visitas al médico y pruebas, pero la interacción social es muy importante para la salud y el bienestar general. Nuestros participantes mayores necesitan un sentido de propósito y un sentido de ser. Y de eso se tratan nuestros centros", dijo el Director Médico de CenterLight Healthcare PACE, Ziad Farah, MD. "Este entorno de cuidados alternativos atiende las diversas necesidades de la comunidad del sur de Asia".

El nuevo Centro Cultural Sudasiático PACE de CenterLight Healthcare abrirá inicialmente de 8.00 a 17.00 horas los miércoles y jueves, y en el futuro ofrecerá un horario de lunes a viernes.
